As voters headed to the polls on Tuesday, a slew of clips went viral showing Democrats in Michigan flipping on Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and saying that they will vote for GOP candidate Mike Rogers instead.
El-Sayed, who has refused to condemn the terrorist IRGC and has family with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, has been losing some support among Democrats as his primary race opponent, Haley Stevens, has backed Rogers for Senate.
One man that CNN interviewed said that he voted for Rogers and that he has "never" voted for a Republican before. When asked his reasoning, he responded, "Draw your own conclusions ... I'm against hate."
Another Michigan voter who is Jewish said that she previously voted for Haley Stevens in the primary but is now voting for Rogers.
"I'm also a Jewish member of this community and feel very strongly that he [El-Sayed] does not support the Jewish community," the voter, identified as Deborah, said.
Another Democrat in Michigan said that Stevens' endorsement of Rogers encouraged her to switch her vote. "It’s almost like her endorsing him is giving people permission to change their minds," she said.
The Democrats that have been flipping to Rogers do not just include everyday voters, but also state lawmakers as well. Democrat Detroit City Councilwoman Mary Waters also showed support for Rogers.
“He’s not egotistical,” Waters said of Rogers. “He’s the type of person that listens. He wants to understand what your needs are."
She contrasted that with El-Sayed and said he is "very headstrong."
Another Michigan voter said that she left the Democrat Party and will be supporting Mike Rogers.
Leaders in the Jewish community of Michigan have also sounded the alarm against El-Sayed, saying that the Jewish community will likely break more for Rogers this year despite it usually being 70 percent in favor of Democrats.
“We could have upwards of 100,000 Jews voting in Michigan. Most years, 70% of the Jewish community vote Democrat. I think this year is an exception.”
