UNRWA personnel were “directly and indirectly involved in recruiting, training, funding, and supporting terrorism"
The Lawfare Project (LP)has demanded that the Trudeau government explain why it funded the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). The LP called this funding “irresponsible” in a release.
The organization notes that UNRWA personnel were “directly and indirectly involved in recruiting, training, funding, and supporting terrorism – including egregiously participating in the Oct. 7 butchering of Jews and the kidnapping and hiding of hostages.”
The LP, along with its local counsel David Elmaleh of RE-LAW LLP, are formally addressing their concerns to Global Affairs Canada and the Privy Council’s Office requesting copies of all documents relevant to UNRWA funding, all documents indicating a link between Hamas and UNRWA and copies of any correspondence documenting previous concerns of the organization.
“Organizations such as the Lawfare Project have been sounding the alarm for years on UNRWA’s corruption and terror support,” said Brooke Goldstein, founder and executive director of The Lawfare Project. “If we uncover evidence that the Canadian federal government was aware of Hamas’ influence in the organization, yet decided to spend taxpayer funds in any event with knowledge that the funds could be used to support terror, we will explore any and all legal remedies at our disposal.”
Goldstein noted that former Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Conservative government stopped funding UNRWA in 2010 because of concerns it was unduly influenced by Hamas. However the money began flowing again after the election of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
“These Freedom of Information requests serve an important function in our democratic society, by helping to hold the government to account, and assisting the public in understanding the inner workings and considerations that led taxpayer funds to be sent to UNRWA, an organization with employees that had a direct hand in spilling Jewish blood.” said David Elmaleh, founding partner at RE-LAW LLP.
According to the news release, “UNRWA has led the charge in indoctrinating children in its schools to passionately hate Jews and to support terror activities leveled against Israel. Its textbooks have glorified female terrorists as role models of female empowerment.”
When asked whether Trudeau has demonstrated moral cowardice during the Gaza war because he has tried to appease both sides, Goldstein told The Post Millennial that Trudeau has violated his own government’s policies in funding UNRWA.
“I think the right word would be demonstrated and carried out a policy of funding illegally, a designated terrorist group, whose sole purpose is to engage in genocide not just against Jewish people, but also against Canadians and Americans,” she said.
“The resumption of funding, when the evidence is clear, when the facts have been exposed to the world, that UNRWA in Gaza is Hamas, is beyond negligent, you can accurately say, what the Canadian government does now is aiding and abetting the premeditated murder of innocent civilians, including Palestinian Muslims, who are being held hostage by Hamas,” Goldstein added.
“That is why the Lawfare Project has launched an investigation together with the law firm RE-LAW into exactly what the Canadian government knew before authorizing the funding of an organization that has been shown to work directly with [Hamas]. It doesn’t need a terrorist group in the pursuit of its genocidal aims of violence and murder,” she told The Post Millennial.
