Rumors spread Tuesday that One America News Network (OANN) had been dropped by DirecTV, with some complaining and lamenting while others celebrate the apparent disappearance of the conservative network.
But it turns out that the network was not dropped at all, despite misleading claims by some liberal commentators that DirecTV had cut ties with OANN.
Jack Posobiec, reporter for OANN, responded by the deliberate disinformation campaign by Posnanski, saying, "Twitter allowed a far-left disinformation campaign about OANN to trend, then took no action against the user who started it. If Twitter is serious about election disinformation in 2020, it has to apply its rules to both sides."
The subscribers who complained that they no longer had access to the news network posted pictures that suggested they only needed to upgrade their DirecTV packages: "To add this channel now, simply text, click or call."
The post pictures have since been deleted.
OANN president Charles Herring explained to TheWrap that DirectTV had terminated a limited-time offer to provide free previews of channels such as his own.
"Due to COVID-19, with many Americans sheltering and home, the cable companies, including DirecTV, have provided FREE extended PREVIEWS of a number of channels, including OANN," he said via email. "DirecTV was offering a number of channels for free to customers that generally don’t receive the programming. Kudos to DirecTV for providing free programming to its customers."
