Legal scholar Jonathan Turley swatted after false reports of shooting in his home

It's been a week of high-profile swattings, and on Friday, legal scholar and chair of public interest law at George Washington University Jonathan Turley was swatted after police were alerted to a shooting at his home. This was a false report. 

"Yes, I was swatted this evening. It is regrettably a manifestation of our age of rage," Turley said in a statement, per the NY Post. "However, we are grateful to the Fairfax police officers who were highly professional and supportive in responding to this harassment."

The Fairfax County, Virg. police said that someone had called 911 and reported a shooting at Turley's home. Turley had recently spoken out against swatting in an interview with Fox Digital.

Turley has recently spoken out against the trend of states attempting to remove frontrunner and former president Donald Trump, saying that "in this age of rage we often make assumptions about people we don't agree with," noting that even Democrat officials "could resist temptation," and have "a greater fealty to the Constitution." He said he believes the Supreme Court will take up the case.

On both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the family of Jack Posobiec were swatted. In both instances, someone called police saying that Posobiec had shot his family to death. Swatting is essentially a crime designed to incite police to kill the victim of the swatting.

"This is a crime that flourishes because there is insufficient deterrent," Turley told Fox.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene was swatted on Christmas, as were her daughters. She has been the victim of swatting multiple times and has praised the police in her home town of Rome, Georg. for their response. Other House representatives have been swatted as well. 

Greene has said that she would propose legislation to increase the crime for swatting, which is essentially the crime of attempted murder and wasting police time.
