Calgary-Skyview MP George Chahal has received a $500 penalty from Elections Canada after an investigation.

The investigation stems from doorbell camera footage that showed Chahal allegedly removing one of Conservative opponent Jag Sahota's campaign flyers and replacing it with his own. Chahal's campaign manager Randal Zalazar told The Post Millennial that George took the flyer because it contained "incorrect polling info."

According to Elections Canada, any contravention of the Canada Elections Act would be up to the discretion of the Commissioner of Canada Elections. The Act prohibits impairing or preventing the transmission of election advertising, which includes "defacing or removing election signs or other election advertisements."

Chahal again apologized for the incident on Twitter on Tuesday, saying "I have accepted and paid a $500 administrative penalty, as assessed by Elections Canada, for removing a flyer from a front door on September 19, 2021.

"I want to again apologize and acknowledge my mistake."
