Trudeau Liberal MPs are deeply concerned about a boycott of Chinese-made pandemic equipment, according to Blacklock's Reporter.
Liberal MPs said that this boycott could break trade treaties. This discussion occurred during a government operations committee meeting.
Conservative MPs attempted to pass a motion that would ask the federal government to only buy Canadian goods. This failed to pass, however, as a result of Liberal dissent.
"Focus on what the issue is," said one Conservative MP. "Get rid of the Chinese masks, okay?"
The House of Commons currently uses masks that are made by a Chinese company. "We need to set an example for the Canadian economy," said a Bloc MP.
"We are using foreign masks that are not made here at home," he added.
One Liberal MP said that there was no evidence Chinese masks were being used in the House of Commons. "There has not been a single moment of any testimony by witnesses to establish this as fact," said a Toronto-based Liberal MP.
"It says ‘Made in China’ on the box," said an opposition MP in response to this. "I don’t know how many witnesses we would need."
