The Trudeau Liberals have allocated $3.5 million to projects whose goal is to improve access to abortion services in Canada.

In the wake of the imminent reversal of Roe v. Wade by the US Supreme Court, the Canadian government has renewed its support for abortions.

On Wednesday, the Liberals announced that as part of a three-year, $45 million plan to make sexual and reproductive information more readily available, $3.5 million would be given to projects aimed at improving abortions services throughout Canada.

Liberal Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos made the announcement during a press conference.

"The legal debate over the right to abortion is closed in this country," he began, "but that doesn't mean that the fight is over. The legal battle has been won; our regulatory framework is strong, and yet for too many Canadians, access to abortion remains a significant challenge."

He then detailed how the $3.5 would be spent, saying that $2 million would be given to Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights, and the rest to the National Abortion Federation.

As Global News reports, the former is expected to use the money to improve and expand programs providing accurate sexual and reproductive health information, as well as assist women who need to travel to receive an abortion.

The latter will allocate funding to give women financial and logistical assistance, as well as to train healthcare providers.

Duclos reiterated that the position of the Liberal government is that "women and women alone have the right to make decisions about their bodies."

The announcement comes just one day before the planned "March for Life," an event in which those opposed to abortion gather in Ottawa to ensure their voices are heard. According to their website, it takes place in May "to mark the Day of Infamy, when the 1969 omnibus bill passed under Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, decriminalizing abortion."
