Former NFL safety Jack Brewer, a lifelong Democrat who once supported former President Barack Obama, offered his support of President Donald Trump during his speech on the third night of the Republic National Convention (RNC). He expressed that he was not there for the popularity, but as a servant to God, the people, and the president.

Brewer described how his great-grandfather was the first black man to settle in Grapevine, Texas, as a sharecropper. He reminisced over having to fight back against skinheads and having to be a witness in a murder trial when his best friend shot a skinhead. He continued by saying that he remembered when his father chose to stand up against a KKK rally in his town, and how his father taught him not to back down from anyone.

"I know what racism looks like. I've seen it firsthand. In America, it has no resemblance to President Trump," Brewer said. "And I'm fed up with the way he's portrayed in the media, who refuse to acknowledge what he's actually done for the black community. It's confusing the minds of our innocent children."

Brewer gave a small anecdote about his 8-year-old son asking if Brewer would tell everyone during his speech that "all lives need to matter, and that God loves everyone." He said that policies need to take precedence over personalities, drawing attention to the fact that many people have condemned Trump on the basis of his tone and attitude as opposed to his ideas on how to make this country better for everyone.

Brewer turned to Biden and Harris, charging them with "collectively" being responsible for locking away black men for non-violent crimes while simultaneously wanting the minority vote. He dispelled the accusation that Trump applauded the white supremacists in Charlottesville, saying "that's a lie, he didn't say that."

Black Lives Matter was also touched on, with Brewer saying that anyone could go on the BLM website and find that they openly advocate for the destruction of the nuclear family. "Our families need each other. We need black fathers in the homes, with their wives and children. The future of our communities depend on it."

Brewer addressed his work in the prison system, in being able to teach classes across America. He mentioned that prisoners get days off their sentence just for attending his classes, thanks to Trump's First Step Act.

Brewer turned to the Republican Party, saying that it was the party that "freed the slaves," and the party that put the first black men and women in Congress. "It's the party of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, and now: Tim Scott and Donald Trump."

"Our president has made incredible strides to end mass incarceration," adding that America should let this be a call for all God's people to "humble ourselves and pray" together for the healing of "this land."
