54 percent of voters said that they were hopeful about the outcome of the election.
Going into December after President-elect Donald Trump's win in the 2024 election, a new poll shows that the majority of American voters are hopeful and feeling more positive than negative about the election results. This comes as Trump has speedily filled cabinet positions for his incoming administration.
A list of words was given to American voters about how they felt about the election results for the 2024 race. 54 percent of them said that they were hopeful about the outcome, 50 percent said they were relieved, and 48 percent said that they were excited about Trump's win.
This contrasts with the negative words that voters felt about the election. Around 40 percent of American voters said they were depressed and 39 percent said they were angry. 46 percent said they were scared about the outcome and 50 percent said they were surprised. Over 9 in 10 Republicans felt hopeful, according to the Fox News poll and Democrats said they felt depressed 68 percent of the time with the election outcome, and 77 percent said they felt scared about the results.
"The fact that hopeful is the top emotion about the election outcome mostly reflects the deep partisan divide in the country, but notably, one in five Democrats is hopeful," Democratic pollster Chris Anderson said. Anderson helped to conduct the poll with Republican Daron Shaw. "While it’s a stretch to say that means Trump can bridge the partisan divide, it may reflect that at least some Democrats think he can make progress in certain areas -- most likely inflation and border security, the top voting issues this year."
The poll also examined how voters feel about certain issues in the country, and which is most important. During the campaign, the top issue most of the time for voters was the economy in the months leading up to the election. The new survey from Fox also places the economy as the top issue, with 34 percent of Americans saying it is the most important. The second most important was the border and immigration at 21 percent.
The Fox News poll was conducted between Dec. 6 and 9 of 1,015 randomly selected registered voters, and has a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points.
