After his debate with former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, socialist candidate for mayor Zohran Mamdani posted about going to visit Imam Siraj Wahhaj at a mosque. Mamdani had attempted to slam Cuomo for not visiting mosques during his campaign; however, the Imam Mamdani posted with is also known as an alleged co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center jihadist bombing attack, who never saw justice.

Mamdani posted on X after the debate, "Today at Masjid At-Taqwa, I had the pleasure of meeting with Imam Siraj Wahhaj, one of the nation’s foremost Muslim leaders and a pillar of the Bed-Stuy community for nearly half a century. I was also joined by CM Yusef Abdus Salaam of Harlem. A beautiful Jummah."

Laura Loomer responded to Mamdani's post, revealing that Wahhaj was an alleged co-conspirator in the 1993 bombing.

The Post Millennial's Andy Ngo also commented on the move from Mamdani, and said, "Imam Siraj Wahhaj was a co-conspirator of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing jihadist attack who escaped justice. In 2023, his son and two daughters were convicted at trial for their role in planning Islamic terror attacks while living in an Islamic separatist compound in New Mexico. They killed a young child there."

Wahhaj's son, Siraj Wahhaj Jr, was convicted on terrorism charges linked to the bombing, according to a report from CBS News. 11 children were found at a compound in New Mexico when the arrest took place, where prosecutors in the case argued that the younger Wahhaj was conducting terrorism training with assault rifles.

The Brooklyn Imam was on the list of people who "may be alleged as co-conspirators" in the 1993 bombing attack. The older Wahhaj also testified as a character witness for Sheik Omar Abdel, who was known as the “blind sheikh” and was convicted in 1995 of plotting terrorist attacks on US soil.

Wahhaj spoke glowingly of the convicted terrorist at trial, and said Abdel was "a well known scholar" and added, "You know, people in the community, they talk about 23 well known scholars and he is among the ones who is 24 mentioned. He is called the hafiz of the Koran." Wahhaj has also donated to Mamdani's campaign.
