Brandon Davon Greenup, 28 years old, has been charged on Friday with first-degree murder in connection with the death of 1-year-old Tremir Matthews in Des Moines IA.
Des Moines police were called in by emergency healthcare workers after Matthews arrived lifeless to the hospital. Matthews apparently had died some time before being taken to the hospital.
According to local outlet KCCI Des Moines, Matthews had been left in Greenup's care on 34th street on Monday night in Des Moines while his mother was working.
A police press release on the subject stated:
"During the [Tuesday] early morning hours, Greenup was aware that the child was having difficulty breathing, and that later the child was limp and unresponsive. Greenup did not seek medical attention for the child."
The statement went on to mention the autopsy on Matthews, which showed signs of severe trauma in the 1-year-old's body.
Charges were laid on Thursday, and a warrant issued for Greenup's arrest. He was found and detained on Friday by authorities.
