A “Director of Gun Violence” is the central focus of the activist group’s demands.

With Biden and Harris now in the White House, gun control advocacy group March for our Lives has a list of demands for their first 100 days, and the appointment of a "Director of Gun Violence" is at the top of their list.

The premise of what they want is the US government to dump billions of dollars in order to address gun violence. A majority of which they mean to intend for research/programming into community-based solutions in 40 cities hard hit by such incidents.

Early on in the list of desires, the organization states they want Biden to “appoint a Director of Gun Violence Prevention, a senior, cabinet-adjacent staffer who reports directly to the President in order to operationalize agencies, negotiate funding, and lead a task force empaneled to study and recommend legislative, executive, and budgetary reforms.”

This gun control czar must be allowed the same authority as the rest of the President’s cabinet, they claim. A position that mans a task force with the same authority as those that deal with drugs and alcohol. In addition, this “Director of Gun Violence” role is intended to pressure both Biden and Harris to follow through on their campaign promises related to gun control.

Specifically:

  • “Near-universal background checks, requiring anyone who sells 5 or more guns per year to run a background check on all gun sales.”
  • “Mandate and enforce license revocation for gun manufacturers and dealers who break the law.”
  • “Closing the boyfriend loophole to prevent those convicted of domestic abuse from purchasing firearms.”
  • “Reversal of President Trump’s dangerous change to the definition of “fugitive from justice.”
  • “Hold the gun industry accountable by directing the IRS to open an investigation into the tax-exempt nonprofit status of the NRA, and direct the FEC to investigate whether the NRA has broken campaign finance laws.”

The activist group asserts declaring gun violence a public health emergency in the same way COVID-19 would “unlock” the funding for the gun control agenda. Further, March For Our Lives cites voter turnout statistics as reasons to behoove President Biden and Vice-President Harris to follow through. They claim people voted for the Biden ticket primarily on this issue.
