A huge sinkhole appeared out of nowhere on Saturday in rural Puebla, Mexico. It has now gotten big enough where it might swallow the home of a family living near it.

The Sanchez-Xalamihua family was at their home on Saturday night, and heard a loud sound that they initially thought was thunder. But, after investigating, they found what was a 10metre-wide sinkhole on their neighbour's property.

According to Mexico News Daily, has been growing almost as quickly as it originally appeared. It is now more than 100m in diameter and more than 20m deep, and filled with bubbling water. It's uncertain at what point it might stop growing.

The below video shows just how quickly the sinkhole is capable of expanding, surprising a couple who were filming it and causing them to run away to avoid potentially falling in:

The edge of the sinkhole is now dangerous close to the Sanchez-Xalamihua home and could possibly engulf it in the very near future.

Mexico has sent authorities from the state and federal level along with experts to study the area's geology to try to determine the root cause for this shocking incident. Naturally, the family has had to evacuate their home.

"It will grow until nature decides, when the water stops exerting pressure. The important thing now is public safety," commented Puebla Governor Miguel Barbosa in a statement.
