A 2016 article from NBC Sports on Michael Jordan has resurfaced on social media recently, and it provides a much-needed sense of perspective on the chaos and panic that is currently gripping America.

The article refers to a statement which was released by Jordan at the time. The full statement of Jordan’s can be found here.

A highlight from the article reads as follows: “Over the past three decades I have seen up close the dedication of the law enforcement officers who protect me and my family. I have the greatest respect for their sacrifice and service. I also recognize that for many people of color their experiences with law enforcement have been different than mine. I have decided to speak out in the hope that we can come together as Americans, and through peaceful dialogue and education, achieve constructive change.”

These words were stated by Jordan not even four years ago, and yet they seem to be coming to use from a completely different universe. Maybe this is a universe that has an extremely important message for us in this increasingly polarized world.

It’s almost shocking to see someone intelligently putting a balanced and nuanced viewpoint out there. Could it be that perhaps there is some middle ground between sticking your head in the sand and pretending there is nothing wrong with the way the police operate, and wanting to completely burn the institution to the ground?

Let’s look on the other hand at what people like the infamous hypocrite and sellout Lebron James. James, every time he opens his mouth, he shows his biases and lack of integrity. Take a look at this article, for example in which James claims that Black Lives Matter is a "lifestyle." James is good at expressing extreme opinions with no solutions offered.

You can search the internet from top to bottom, and this is what you’re going to find from James. Trust us, we have done it.

Jordan on the other hand, as a matter of public record, took $2 million USD out of his pocket and put the money to work towards bringing the African American community and local police departments closer together in order to find solutions. He may not have had the answer right away, but he was committed to finding one.

Jordan’s words are coming back to us at exactly the right moment, a moment where we all need to reflect on his wisdom. Hopefully we can take this message and run it down.

We also want to take a moment to acknowledge the brave Jonathan Isaacs for being another voice of reason. You may or may not agree with his strong religious beliefs, but that’s not the point. The world needs people like Jordan and Isaacs. We need people thinking out of the box and getting off the bandwagon, now more than ever.
