At the Grand River Academy in Livonia, Michigan, one of the attending children inadvertently turned kindergarten snack time into an impromptu happy hour when the child shared a bottle of ready-to-drink Jose Cuervo margaritas with fellow elementary school-aged students, according to Fox 2 Detroit.

As parents began to hear about the shocking event, the school issued a statement, quickly apologizing for the incident. "While we try to keep an eye on everything our students bring to school, that's simply not possible. It's unfortunate that these types of adult beverages can be easily mistaken for child-friendly drinks."

According to the school, the student brought the liquor in a backpack.

Alexis Smith, one of the parents of the children in the class, said that her child had been one of the kids to receive one of the Dixie cups filled with the mixed drink. Smith told reporters that her daughter had taken about four or five sips.

One parent by the name of Dominique Zanders stated that her child had not known the contents of the drink until after she had consumed the beverage.

"The girl poured it in her cup and she drank it and the girl ended up telling her what it is, and she went and told the teacher there is liquor in this cup, and the teacher gave her a funny face," Zanders said. The young child also told Zanders that she had felt "woozy" and "dizzy" after trying the drink.

The school called the parents right away to tell them all the kids were physically okay and said they would hand out discipline to the student, if necessary. Some of the parents are calling for some sort of measure to be implemented against the parents of the child. Smith told Fox she thinks the guardians ought to be punished.

"If your child knows what it is, nothing wrong with it - but they should know not to touch it. That it's not for kids," the parent said.
