The streets of Milwaukee were cleared overnight Friday as authorities imposed a curfew and cancelled events following a multitude of separate incidents of mass gun violence that rocked the city.

"Milwaukee WI is now under an emergency curfew after three different shootings took place in one night. The shooters literally shot into crowds and hit 21 people," wrote Mythinformed Milwaukee on Twitter.

Mayor Cavalier Johnson said in a Saturday morning press conference: "I’m issuing a limited emergency order that imposes a curfew for all individuals under the age of 21 years old, in the immediate area for tonight, as well as tomorrow night."

Johnson noted that the curfew boundaries would be within the entertainment district, and that additional police officers would be in place for the evening.

According to the New York Post, nine separate shootings occurred on Friday night, killing three and injuring 24 others.

Mythinformed Milwaukee's tweet goes on to state, "What Darrell Brooks did in Waukesha is a symptom of a much bigger problem," and recommends that people "get out of Milwaukee if you can."

On November 21, 2021, Brooks rammed his SUV into the middle of a Christmas parade in downtown Waukesha, Wisconsin, killing six people and injuring numerous others.

According to the Daily Wire, "the Milwaukee Bucks have canceled Sunday’s watch party in downtown Milwaukee for game seven against the Boston Celtics in the NBA playoffs due to a string of shootings in the city Friday that left many injured. The mayor of Milwaukee also imposed an 11:00 pm curfew for parts of the city," in the wake of the shootings.

The Bucks' management team announced that they decided to cancel the watch party in order to make things easier for authorities. The Bucks are in a tightly-contested series playing against their long-time rivals the Boston Celtics, and their Friday night loss forced a seventh game.

Three of the Friday night shootings occurred near Fiserv Forum, where the Bucks had hosted the Celtics.

Police have reportedly taken 10 people into custody in connection with a shooting on Walter Street, and 10 guns were seized. The victims, who are between the ages of 15 and 47, are all expected to survive.

Milwaukee has been less and less of a stranger to violent incidents of crime since the start of the pandemic.
