On Tuesday, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey announced that he would not be cooperating with President Donald Trump's plans for deporting illegal immigrants in the country, something that the administration has indicated could lead to legal action against state and local officials.

During a press conference, Frey, a Democrat, commented, "I want to speak directly to people who are undocumented: we love you. We care about you. In the city of Minneapolis, we will stand up for you and we will do anything in our power to help because you're not an alien; in our city, you're a neighbor."

"Now, in Minneapolis, we have what is called a separation ordinance," Frey added, saying that the city will not gather information on who is an illegal immigrant in the city. "And that separation ordinance states clearly that our city officials, our police officers and beyond, will not be gathering information showing who is and who is not documented."

The mayor said that the local government does not have that kind of information, as it does not try to keep track of who is in the city from other countries, living in the United States without legal permission.

"Our police officers will not be cooperating with federal law enforcement around federal immigration law. We enforce state and local laws here in Minneapolis, and we will do so to the best of our ability. But as for cooperation with ICE, the answer is no," Frey added.

Frey, who knelt at the casket of George Floyd and was slammed for his slow response when rioters burned buildings to the ground during the 2020 George Floyd riots, has decided to buck Trump's directive for cooperation in helping to deport the illegal immigrants in his city. Trump as well as Border Czar Tom Homan have spoken about making it a priority to get violent criminals who entered the country illegally as well as public safety threats off the streets of American cities.

For his part, Homan has vowed to prosecute those local and state officials who obstruct the Trump administration's efforts on deportations.

Is anyone surprised? This is how Leftists act: everyone is a priority except normal, everyday Americans.
