President Donald Trump took questions from media after providing a live statement on the tragedy that occurred over the Potomac river, where a military helicopter crashed into a passenger death in what is believed to be an entirely preventable accident.

Amid his answers, President Trump stated that he believed it was time for the military to weed out Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity (DEI) hires and policies, as to prevent future tragedies, and pointed some blame to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

“The FAA’s website states they include hearing, vision, missing extremities, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability and dwarfism, all qualify for the position of a controller of airplanes pouring into our country, pouring into a little spot on the map,” he said, saying that the initiative was part of the FAA’s diversity and inclusion hiring plan which says diversity is ‘integral to achieving FAA’s mission of ensuring safe and efficient travel.’ I don’t think so,” Trump said.

The Trump administration has made clear that it seeks to restore meritocracy by shutting down DEI offices and restoring integrity in the military. While Trump did not lay blame on any particular party involved, he said that “the warnings were given very late… Almost as they were given, there was a crash. It should have been brought up earlier.

“The people in the helicopter should have seen where they were going. I can’t imagine people with 20/20 vision not seeing what’s happening up there. They shouldn’t have been at the same height,” Trump said.

Trump was asked if this would prompt the firing of “diversity hires,” to which he gave a clear yes.

“I would say the answer is yes, if we find that people aren’t mentally competent, you see the language, the language is put out by them… These are not people that should be doing these particular jobs,” Trump said.

Trump was asked why he was blaming diversity while not revealing who or what was to blame, Trump said that the situation was “under investigation.”

“How can you come to the conclusion that diversity had something to do with this crash?” a reporter asked.

“Because I have common sense, and unfortunately a lot of people don’t. We want brilliant people doing this. This is a major chess game at the highest level, when you have 60 planes coming in during a short period of time, they’re all coming at different directions and you’re dealing with high level computer work and very complex computers.”

“For some jobs… They have to be at the highest level of genius,” he later added. Trump said that people should have no hesitation to fly following the accident.
