Nirla Sharma, a 44-year-old mother from New Westminster, BC was found dead along the Fraser River.

Sharma was last seen in the Queensborough area on Feb. 23 at her home as she was going to bed, according to Global News, and has been missing ever since.

On Monday, Feb. 24, one of her family members heard the front door open at about 4 a.m. Her family contacted police, who asked for the public's helping locating Sharma.

At around 4 p.m. on April 26, the New Westminster Police Department was contacted by Burnaby RCMP after they received reports of a body located by the Fraser River between Burnaby and New Westminster.

The body is 44-year-old Sharma, according to investigators.

“This is a tragic conclusion in the search for Mrs. Sharma. At this time, there is no evidence of foul play, but the cause of death is yet to be determined,” Sgt. Jeff Scott noted in a release.

“The New Westminster police victim assistance unit is providing support to the family during this very difficult and sad time. We would like to thank the public for their efforts and assistance, and we understand that this news is difficult for everyone.”

The major crime unit of New Westminster police and the BC Coroner Service will work together to find the cause of death.
