Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey on Thursday announced that he is launching an investigation into Google for allegedly censoring conservative speech ahead of November’s election.

"I am launching an investigation into Google - the biggest search engine in America - for censoring conservative speech during the most consequential election in our nation’s history," Bailey announced. "Google is waging war on the democratic process. It’s time to fight back."

According to Fox Business, Bailey intends to subpoena the tech giant to investigate its algorithms and how conservative content is buried in later pages of its search engine.

In a statement to the outlet, Bailey said, "We have reason to believe that Google is manipulating their search results to deemphasize information about the Trump campaign prior to Election Day. I will not allow Google to interfere in the most consequential election in our nation’s history."

A spokesperson for Bailey told the New York Post, "Evidence has come to light that Google is de-emphasizing conservative speech or content — such as putting conservative reporting on Page 11 rather than Page 1 — by manipulating search results."

They added, "Google is the largest search engine in America and has an obligation to consumers to utilize fair business practice. We will be subpoenaing information on Google’s algorithms and other systems to determine whether they are censoring conservative speech."

A spokesperson for the tech giant said that Bailey’s "claims are totally false," and that "Independent studies have confirmed that Google Search is nonpartisan."

"Search serves all our users, and our business rests on showing useful information to everyone — no matter what their political beliefs are," the statement added.

Trump has vowed to request that the Department of Justice under a second Trump term prosecute Google for their "blatant interference of elections."

“It has been determined that Google has illegally used a system of only revealing and displaying bad stories about Donald J. Trump, some made up for this purpose while, at the same time, only revealing good stories about Comrade Kamala Harris,” Trump wrote. “This is an ILLEGAL ACTIVITY, and hopefully the Justice Department will criminally prosecute them for this blatant Interference of Elections. If not, and subject to the Laws of our Country, I will request their prosecution, at the maximum levels, when I win the Election, and become President of the United States!”

Senator Roger Marshall in August announced that a full investigation had been launched into "Google's litany of failures & history of suppressing conservative viewpoints," after the tech giant’s search autocomplete feature omitted the inclusion of the Trump assassination, despite showing search suggestions for other famous assassination attempts throughout history.
