"Yesterday, I saw for the first time what a massive disconnect there was between social media and the real world," Scarborough said.
After being called out for their Monday broadcast explanation of why they met with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Friday, MSNBC’s Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski promised to do their best in the future and encouraged viewers to “take it day by day.”
But the two faced a barrage of criticism on X from fellow journalists who said the duo had looked ridiculous when they attempted to explain their audience with Trump, as the pair of MSNBC hosts had equated Trump to Hitler and fascism during his campaign. Former Fox News host and current independent journalist Megyn Kelly said, “Go F*ck yourselves, you dishonest jokes of faux journalists. What an absurd farce that was. Which one was insincere? He's Hitler, or now we're gonna speak truth to power and find a way of speaking to and working with Donald Trump. Which one was a lie?”
Investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald accused Scarborough and Brzezinski of hypocrisy. “I know there are many contenders, but Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are the two most pathetic worms in corporate media. They will do and say anything to feel close to power. They both worshipped Trump in 2015, and only turned against him when he wouldn't pick Joe as VP.”
During Tuesday’s Morning Joe broadcast, Scarborough chose to accentuate the positive and claimed he had received plenty of praise for meeting with Trump. He said all the criticism on X was just evidence of how the social media platform does not reflect “the real world.”
Scarborough began his explanation by saying, “First of all, thank you to everyone who was so kind last night … Yesterday, I saw for the first time what a massive disconnect there was between social media and the real world because we were flooded with phone calls from people all day, literally around the world, all very positive, very supportive, [who said] ‘I understand what you did…’ etcetera, etcetera,” Scarborough said.
“All of us will do the best we can do, and we’re all working towards a better America,” Scarborough declared while Brzezinski encouraged the audience to “Take it day by day, people.”
