Hasbro has announced it will start shipping their famous "Mr. Potato Head" toy as simply "Potato Head," making him gender-neutral.
The change on the boxes of the toy's name will be seen on shelves sometime before the year, according to the company.
Mr. Potato Head has been around for several decades now, and Hasbro felt they needed to make him more "modern," according to AP News.
Companies these days are struggling with how to place their products in a rapidly changing post-modern world, sometimes with very problematic results, like in the case of this troll doll that had a button in a very unfortunate place.
Mattel's famous and iconic line of Barbie dolls has also been getting a sweeping update, with dolls of all skin tones, shapes and sizes now available. The famous Thomas the Train Engine has also been expanded to include more female personae.
On the other side of the coin, doll lines like American Girl are also diversifying by including boy dolls in their line for the first time ever.
