The victim said his family demanded that he renounce his newfound beliefs and revert to the faith he was born into.
Nick Kadum, Rawa Khawaji, and John Kadum were subsequently charged with domestic assault, bodily injury, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to Fox News, the incident took place on Monday, and officers with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department were called to the family's home early Tuesday morning after the victim's employer called police expressing concerns for his safety.
When members of law enforcement arrived, they discovered the victim "trembling and wide eyed" and his hair was "disheveled." He was promptly taken to a nearby hospital, while his mother, father, and brother were carted off to jail.
The victim claimed in a statement to officers that he had been punched and spat on repeatedly, adding that after all that his own mother cut the back of his hand "haphazardly" with a knife, all because he decided to leave Islam and become a Christian.
He said that during the attack, his family demanded that he renounce his newfound beliefs and revert to the faith he was born into.
The victim's father and brother were released from custody Tuesday afternoon, while his mother has been ordered to remain.
Many who practice the Muslim faith view converting to another religion as a forbidden act, with those who do decide Islam isn't right for them being deemed apostates.
