NDP leader Jagmeet Singh has been kicked out of the House of Commons today after refusing to apologize for calling a Bloc Quebecois MP a racist.
Singh was given the opportunity by the speaker to apologize and withdraw his statement but ultimately chose not to do so. As a result of this, the NDP leader was removed from the commons.
Before he was removed, Singh reportedly stood up and stated again that his allegation was true.
Singh's statement came after the Bloc refused to pass a motion on Canada's systemic racism, and racism within the RCMP.
Moreover, the motion would've called on the government to review the RCMP's budget and the force's method of accountability. This also would've included a full review on the RCMP's training when it comes to the use of force.
The Bloc Quebecois MP in question is Alain Therrien, who represents the riding of La Prairie in Quebec.
After Singh presented this motion, all parties appeared to support it, when Therrien shouted "no" in the chamber.
After this, Singh and Therrien argued in French, which is when Singh called the Quebec-based MP a racist.
