On Saturday morning, the House voted to pass over $60 billion for Ukraine aid, $26.4 billion for Israel aid, as well as a bill that will force all Chinese ownership to divest from TikTok
The bills all passed on Saturday morning. If China does not divest from TikTok, the social media platform could face a US ban.
A vote to force the divestment of China from TikTok passed with a supermajority of 360-58 votes in the chamber.
Lawmakers also passed the $60,8 billion package to Ukraine with a vote of 311–112.
Democratics also waved handheld Ukrainian flags in celebration of the vote.
The $26.4 billion package to Israel passed as well with a vote of 366–58.
Tensions led up to the vote as House Speaker Mike Johnson was threatened by a motion to vacate filed by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). Rep. Thomas Massie also backed the measure in the days leading up to the votes on the foreign aid bills.
In a fact sheet from Speaker Johnson on the bills, he put forward the details of where spending would be allocated.
$48.3 billion is set to go towards funding the US defense industry in order to provide assistance and arms to Ukraine in fighting against Russia in the war.
In the package for Israel, there is $9 billion set to go to "worldwide humanitarian aid." Many Republicans have been critical of the aid which will be going to Gaza in the war. They suspect that the aid will end up in the hands of Hamas instead of citizens in the region.
