During the first presidential debate on Thursday night, Biden claimed that the Border Patrol has endorsed him for president and for his border policies. The Border Patrol union endorsed Trump in the 2016 and 2020 elections.
"By the way, the Border Patrol endorsed me, endorsed my position," Biden told viewers at home, as there was no live audience in CNN’s Atlanta studio.
In a post on X, the Border Patrol’s Union, the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), said "to be clear, we never have and never will endorse Biden."
The comment from Biden came in response to a question from CNN debate moderator Jake Tapper asked him if Americans could trust him on the border. Biden answered that Americans should take elect him. This is despite a record number of illegal immigrants flowing into the country under Biden’s watch.
Biden said the American people should elect him because "we worked very hard to get a bipartisan agreement that not only changed all of that," adding that the number of Border Patrol agents has seen a "significant increase."
