Williams only played in the league for one season in the NFL on the Lions in 2016.
Former NFL star from the Detroit Lions Antwione Williams was arrested this week in connection to charges from the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot and protest. Williams has been charged with two felonies including assault.
According to the Daily Mail, Williams' arrest comes as the first after President-elect Donald Trump won the 2024 election against Kamala Harris. Williams only played in the league for one season in the NFL on the Lions in 2016 and was later waived in 2017. He was also on the Vikings, Panthers, and Seahawks' practice squads for a time between 2017 and 2019.
Williams was identified by federal authorities from camera footage of J6. He was seen allegedly breaking through police barricades and getting physical with an officer on the grounds in the footage. The complaint against Williams was submitted in court on November 7 and he was arrested in Savannah, Georgia by the FBI and subsequently charged, per WUSA9.
According to the charging documents, Williams was identified by items he had on his person, including a key chain and the logo on his hat after a tip was submitted to identify him.
Those who have been arrested in connection to January 6 and have ranged from Blaze reporter Steven Baker who was on the ground to record the events to others who have been charged with violent crimes. The Biden-Harris DOJ has been criticized for the number of resources it has spent on identifying those at the protest and riot on J6 while more violent demonstrations have not received as much attention from the DOJ.
