New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio confirmed Wednesday that the city will not reopen indoor dining on July 6 as originally planned, according to Axios.

This is due to fears that the coronavirus may surge in New York as other states seeing the virus ramping up.

The tri-state area of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut was a hotspot during the initial US COVID-19 outbreak. Since that time, the region has essentially US, flattened the case curve.

The economy has begun to reopen, but measures to do so have been slow, contradictory, and confusing to many.

Officials fear that the area will experience a resurgence of coronavirus cases due to states in the area that are also seeing a rise.

The delay comes as New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that people coming in from other states must quarantine for two weeks.

Protest activity has continued unabated in New York City, and while officials have continued to encourage residents to stay home, there have been noticeable exceptions for the tens of thousands of people who wish to express their grievances.

Playgrounds have reopened, as have some churches, which took the state to court over refusals to allow religious services while sanctioning gatherings of thousands, won their fight and are able to hold socially distanced worship services.
