The New York Health Commissioner is now recommending that everyone in the state mask up with not one, but two face masks.

In a post on Twitter, the City of New York wrote that the Commissioner “now recommends wearing TWO face masks when you’re around people you don’t live with. Wear a cloth mask over a disposable mask to keep yourself and others safe. Make sure it’s over your nose and mouth.”

According to the advisory, there are six steps to covering up.

“Always wear a face mask covering that snugly covers your nose and mouth when you are around other people, and even around household members if you or they are sick or were recently exposed to someone with COVID-19. Consider wearing two face coverings,” it reads.

“Two face coverings may better protect you and others by adding layers and helping ensure a snug fit. If you decide to wear two face coverings, wear a cloth mask covering over a disposable mask. Do not wear two disposable masks or a face covering over a higher-grade mask like a KN95.”
