Former Dem congresswoman says Fox News ‘normalizing’ former President Trump with a town hall is ‘extremely dangerous’

"What does it tell you that Donald Trump is actually going to be doing a town hall that is going to air, it's going to be on Fox News, after Fox got tagged with a $787.5 million defamation settlement for promoting the Trump big lie about the 2020 election?" Phang asked the congresswoman.

"You know, a big part of Trump is his megaphone, his ability to get out to supporters," Phang added.

"I mean it is so extremely dangerous, Katie, that they're normalizing the former president that was impeached twice," Mucarsel-Powell said. "Someone that incited an insurrection in our Capitol. It was actually a self-attempted coup of our government, so that he could remain in office."

Fox News has scheduled a town hall with Trump to be moderated by Sean Hannity on June 1 at 9 pm.

Phang also noted that CNN has an upcoming town hall planned with former Vice President Mike Pence on June 7. Phang asked the Florida congresswoman "What does it tell you that there are media outlets that are providing platforms for potential GOP primary candidates to be able to get out and then just sell their wares, I guess?"

"And they're acting as if, as if it's business as usual, politics as usual. No. We are on, really, the last line of defense here for our democracy, and our freedoms," Mucarsel-Powell said. "And it's extremely dangerous. It doesn't surprise me, right, I mean, I think Fox is doing it for the hits, for the power, for the money. And we'll see what happens. But I think Americans need to be very, very, weary of all of this.

She concluded her remarks with a suggestion that Fox News is putting the public at risk with its conduct, saying, "We cannot normalize insurrections We cannot normalize political violence. It has to stop."
