Actor Russell Brand is blasting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for using "fear mongering" to gain more authoritarian control over Canada.
In a 13 minute video, Brand focused his criticism on Trudeau's May announcement the administration intends to introduce new tools to address "misinformation and disinformation." The primary tool in question is digital ID, which would track and harness citizens' digital interactions writ large.

Brand describes the digital ID as an authoritarian device, saying, "it won't mean more freedom, it'll mean their ability to capture your data, share that data, and use that data to manipulate your behavior."
As The Post Millennial reported in March, Brand previously called Trudeau a "tyrant" for implementing the first use of Canada's Emergencies Act. A convoy of Canadian truckers had successfully mounted an ongoing protest over the country's travel vaccine mandate, and Trudeau invoked the Act to quell their efforts.
Trudeau's treatment of the truckers is mentioned in Brand's video. Brand carefully deconstructs the linguistic gymnastics employed to categorize the trucker's protest as "right wing extremism." He says "if the reason for foreclosing democracy is 'some people say stuff sometimes' then forget democracy as a concept."

The treatment of the truckers in combination with Canada's COVID policies are two of many volleys towards what Brand calls a more "friendly" version of fascism, foisted by a pleasant "beautiful bouffant wearing" prime minister.
Canada's embrace of the road to soft totalitarianism has gained more momentum over the past few years, with Trudeau continually pushing for more restrictions on Canadian's lives. Brand describes that entropy, saying "these people, under the mask of liberalism, under the bouffant of friendliness, are always trying to push one clear agenda: give us more power, give up your individual freedom, so that we can support the interest of globalist technocracies and corporations that have had the inconvenience of democratic intervention."
Brand says he'll stop calling out Trudeau's tyranny if Canadians simply say "what we want is a banal… technocracy where you have no freedom… you exchange your freedom for security, you're not going to have any control over your own life, you're going to live in a variety of boxes."
