AG Barr says he hasn’t seen evidence of widespread voter fraud; Trump team fires back
Attorney General William Barr issued a statement in which he claimed that there isn’t enough evidence of fraud to overturn election results as of yet. Trump’s lawyers were quick to respond to Barr’s statement.
Attorney General William Barr issued a statement in which he claimed that there isn't enough evidence of fraud to overturn election results as of yet.
"To date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election," said bar in an interview.
According to ABC7, a local news source, Barr claims that US Attorneys and the FBI have been following up on information as it has been received, but they haven't found any evidence yet that would influence the election enough to change the winner.
This comes as a surprise to many, considering Barr's having worked closely with President Trump throughout this term, also considering his repeated criticism of mail-in voting, mentioning the potential for fraud associated with it.
Trump's lawyers were quick to respond to Barr's statement with the following: “With all due respect to the Attorney General, there hasn’t been any semblance of a Department of Justice investigation. We have gathered ample evidence of illegal voting in at least six states, which they have not examined.”
"There's been one assertion that would be systemic fraud and that would be the claim that machines were programmed essentially to skew the election results. And the DHS and DOJ have looked into that, and so far, we haven't seen anything to substantiate that," said Barr, presumably referring to Sidney Powell, a pro-Trump lawyer who however is not part of the Trump team.
"There's a growing tendency to use the criminal justice system as sort of a default fix-all, and people don't like something they want the Department of Justice to come in and 'investigate,'" continued Barr.
"Most claims of fraud are very particularized to a particular set of circumstances or actors or conduct. They are not systemic allegations and. And those have been run down; they are being run down. Some have been broad and potentially cover a few thousand votes. They have been followed up on."
There is, however, a lot of high-level pushback against Barr's stance, with many critics feeling that the Department of Justice hasn't done enough on such an important issue:
"Sidney Powell @SidneyPowell1 & many others, including myself, have seen overwhelming evidence of the systemic fraud in the voting machine software. Dominion is controlled by Communist China. This make NO sense to Patriots. What is going on in D.C.? Same problem as exists in GA?"
Representative Matt Gaetz from Florida also went on Fox Business to express his dissatisfaction with Barr's stance:
