As well as this, the premier has called on the prime minister to act as a funding partner to reform Ontario's long-term care system.
"We must change the system, this tragedy must serve as a wakeup call to our country. COVID-19 has exposed the deep, deep cracks in our healthcare system."
Ford said that the long-term care home system was broken for decades. Vowing to fix the system, the premier said he "will leave no stone unturned."
When a reporter asked Ford whether he could have done more to save seniors, the premier responded "I don't think this government failed seniors. I take ownership, I take full ownership ... but we're gonna make sure we fix it."
"Ontario is not the only province that has had difficulties with long-term care homes, look at Quebec," he added. "We must to better as a province, we must to better as a county."
The premier became visibly emotional when he discussed in detail what was occurring in these facilities.
Earlier today, Justin Trudeau also discussed this report in a press conference, saying the reports made his "emotions range from anger to sadness to frustration, grief. It is extremely troubling."
Long-term care homes have suffered disproportionately in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic in Canada. Earlier this month, it was reported that 82 percent of Canada's coronavirus deaths occurred in these care homes.
As well as this, there have been numerous reports of neglect and dereliction taking place in these facilities.
The military report on long-term care homes is due to be published shortly, however, it is clear that it will detail severe neglect of these facilities residents.
