Scheer RIPS Trudeau over gun laws, tanking economy

Scheer called for the prime minister to release a detailed plan to help provinces get through the economy's reopening, a process that experts have called everything from "tricky" to straight-up risky.

"Liberal failures cannot be allowed to derail provincial efforts to get our country back on track, but that is exactly what federal programs are threatening to do," said Scheer.

Scheer criticized Trudeau's CERB and Student Benefit due to their damaging incentives for Canadians to get back to work. Scheer says the CERB helped cushion the damage of the pandemic, but may damage Canada's start up, with the CERB benefit continuing to October.

"So as provinces reopen, Canadians will have a difficult decision to make: ... to return to work, while hoping that there isn't a second wave... Or, they could wait, stay on the benefit, and wait until the uncertainty passes," said Scheer.

Scheer worries that Trudeau's policies may hinder Canada's economic reopening, and for more oversight and accountability via Parliament.

When discussing the coming Trudeau gun buy back program, Scheer said that his government disagrees with the government's approach.

"We don't believe that it's efficient to ask law abiding citizens to follow more laws," said Scheer. "They've created a new rule so that the hundreds of thousands of law abiding fire arms owners will follow these laws, just as they have with all of these laws that have been passed in the past. Because they're honest people."

Scheer said that it was those who will not follow regulations are drug dealers and gun traffickers who choose to "do evil" with firearms.

"Whether or not some people should be grandfathered or not, any measure that protects the rights of law-abiding firearms owners, we would support. Any measure that doesn't, we will oppose," saying that he and his government were against Trudeau's "ineffective" gun ban.
