BREAKING: Trudeau defends fake news video that was labelled as manipulated media by Twitter

Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party campaigned all Sunday on the talking point, including Freeland, who sent out a mass mailer, and Trudeau spreading the disinformation.

Trudeau was asked for a response to "the fact that Twitter says a video that was posted by Chrystia Freeland has been manipulated and now counsel, legal counsel, for the Conservative Party is asking for an immediate investigation into that video."

"What's really important here is that in the middle of a pandemic, Erin O'Toole came out unequivocally in support of private healthcare, in terms of for-profit healthcare. We posted the entire interview," Trudeau said, fumbling for words.

"We posted the entire interview in its entirety and encourage all Canadians to take a look, to see what Erin O'Toole has to say about what he sees on the future of healthcare," Trudeau said.

The video, posted by Freeland, was officially labeled "manipulated media" by Twitter, is from an interview O'Toole did during the 2020 leadership, in which he describes his position on healthcare.

The way the video is manipulated makes it looks as though the Conservative leader is promoting for-profit private healthcare. It was shortly after the tweet went live, Twitter users found the original video and exposed the fact that the Liberal campaign misled voters.

The host of the edited video herself, Kate Harrison, said: "As the person who asked the question, I'm disappointed to see the video was manipulated to exclude important context." She then posted the full video for context.

The Conservative Party itself also corrected the record on Twitter, showing that in the original interview O'Toole stated that he is fully in support of the Universal Healthcare system in Canada.

"We need to ensure universal access remains paramount," O'Toole said in the original interview. This portion was, however, selectively edited out of the Liberal Party version of the video.
