BREAKING: Trudeau tells Canadians to “stay at home” or face the consequences

The prime minister started by scolding those who are "putting themselves and others at risk" by not practicing social distancing, telling Canadians to go home and stay home. "Enough is enough. Go home, and stay home. This is what we all need to be doing and we need to make sure this happens, whether by educating people more on the risks, or by enforcing the rules if that's needed. Nothing that could help is off the table."

When asked how the government would enforce social distancing, Trudeau said the federal government would be working with provincial governments to work on methods if certain "measures aren't being taken up properly." Trudeau said his government would look at different measures that could be necessary to enforce the rules.

"We'd rather not, and we know that millions of Canadians are doing their part. But those who are not are putting at risk everyone else, including the eventual recovery of our economy."

When asked about specifics on how rules would be enforced, Trudeau said nothing from the Emergency Act has been "taken off the table."

Trudeau also announced that government ads made to increase awareness around coronavirus are set to run for the remainder of March and through April on television and radio, as well as print media publications.

The ads will feature Canada's chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam, who will remind Canadians to wash their hands and to remain at home to practice social distancing.

Trudeau also commended the Olympic squads for staying home amidst the pandemic, eventually calling it "absolutely the right call," saying that "everyone should follow their lead."

"If you're doing your part, I want to say thank you. And when it gets hard, know that your government is right there with you.

Trudeau announced that the government would be opening up $5 billion dollars in additional lending capacity to farmers and producers, through Farm Credit Canada.

Trudeau also gave updates on the stranded Canadians abroad, saying: "For Canadian stranded abroad we're working with airlines to get people home. People should be returning by commercial means while they're still available."

Trudeau gave important information about a newly announced $275 million for research funds and the development of vaccines and anti-viral treatments.

The government will also invest $192 million in vaccine creation in Canada, funding long-term solutions "here at home."

AbCelera of Vancouver will be a major player in the vaccine development, along with Medicago, a Quebec-based company, as well as the University of Saskatchewan.
