Haylett is now facing charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespassing, first-degree criminal mischief, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a restricted weapon as a felon.
On Saturday, police officers of Portland's North Precinct responded to an emergency call saying that a burglary suspect was trying to break into a house armed with a sword and a knife.
Authorities received the call at 4:43 pm and went to the location described on NE Farragut St to find Chance Trasen Haylett, 20, inside, according to the Portland Police Bureau press release. No one else was in the home at the time.
Haylett reacted aggressively open seeing the officers, fleeing out the house's back door, charging nearby officers who were forming a perimeter, and brandishing a sword. Responding police officers wound up firing two foam-tipped rounds at the man, which subdued the suspect.
Negotiations ensued, and police managed to get him to surrender in a peaceful manner, after which he was arrested and taken to the hospital in police custody. After his clinical evaluation was completed, he was transferred to Multnomah County Detention Center.
At the scene, Haylett had a bag with 15 weapons, including the sword in question. In the bag, police also found several knives, an axe, and a slingshot.
Haylett is now facing charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespassing, first-degree criminal mischief, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a restricted weapon as a felon.
Haylett's Instagram bio reads, "F— the cops."
Incidents like these have become common in the Portland area, causing widespread concern surrounding rampant crime among residents.
