John McCallum, Canada's ambassador to China, appears to have held a private press conference with Chinese media where he made comments that showed Canada potentially attributing blame towards the United States.
Notably, it appears that Canadian media were not invited to cover the Ambassador's comments.
The CGTN report also states that the Ambassador made it clear the arguments include President Trump's statements regarding potential interference in the matter in order to secure a better trade deal with the United States, Canada's disagreement with the US withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal, and a potential lack of jurisdiction by Canadian courts to hear the matter.
The fact that North American news organizations were not invited is, in and of itself, extremely worrying, as it shows an intent to tell one story to Canadians and another story to the Chinese.
All that English speaking news outlets have been informed of is the abysmal way the Chinese government has been treating imprisoned Canadians as a political response.
At a minimum, you'd imagine that the Ambassador would inform an organization with a larger English and French reach first, then the Chinese media.
