CDC to allow child migrant shelters hit 100% capacity in spite of COVID threat

According to Axios, the Centers for Disease Control is allowing facilities that are handling child migrants along the U.S.-Mexico border to open up to fuller capacity.

The draft memo stated "facilities should plan for and expect to have COVID-19 cases” and goes on to detail ways to prevent COVID’s spread.

All the meanwhile the CDC and top health officials are condemning states like Texas and Mississippi for opening up too early. The justification in the memo cites “extraordinary circumstances” as an excuse to open up facilities back up to pre-COVID-19 status.

To highlight the contrast, Axios explains that there were only 47 children per day the first week of January. But this number under the Biden administration has since ballooned to 321 children per day.

The memo claims this is the only available option for children crossing the border without parents. "At this time, CBP does not have adequate space for physical distancing, quarantine of persons exposed to COVID-19 or isolation of ill or infected persons," according to the memo.

"We recognize the challenge of having these unaccompanied children come across the border and the influx that we're certainly preparing for and, and preparing to approach," said press secretary Jen Psaki on the issue.

The situation at the US-Mexico border is egregious enough that former President Trump recently released a statement noting Biden's failures.
