Congressman who had relationship with Chinese spy suggests Republican colleagues are ‘traitors’

Swalwell recently aroused controversy after it was reported that he formed a close relationship with a Chinese spy named Christine Fang, also known as Fang Fang. Fang was a prominent face at fundraisers for Swalwell's first congressional campaign, and even managed to place an intern in Swalwell's office after he was elected. The FBI, concerned over Swalwell's consorting with Fang, eventually informed the congressman of their suspicions about her activity.

Swalwell was one of a number of Democratic politicians who were associated with Fang.

The relationship was so close that Swalwell allegedly even slept with the spy, resulting in calls for Republicans for Swalwell to be removed from the House Intelligence Committee, a call which has been largely dismissed by Democrats.

"I think, to be careful and to [be] cautious, he should actually resign from the intelligence committee. If he’s not willing to do that, he should be removed from the intelligence committee," Kentucky Senator Rand Paul said of the matter.

Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy also called for Swalwell's resignation, stating that the "House Intelligence Committee is a special committee. The members on it have access to many of America’s top national security secrets. Long story short—There are 200 other Democrats who would be better to be on the Intel Committee than Eric Swalwell."

Swalwell's behaviour was defended by Democratic House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who said in a press conference that she does not "have any concern about Mr. Swalwell. In terms of Mr. Swalwell, in the spring of 2015, the leadership of the House and the committee were informed that overtures from a Chinese person were being made to members of Congress. When that was made known to the members of Congress, it was over. You know, that was the end of any communication with those people."

Needless to say, Twitter users took note of the hypocrisy in Swalwell's tweet.

Swalwell has not responded to any of the tweets.
