Disgraced Trudeau advisor posts then deletes racist and sexist meme

The post was published last night as a "Map of the USA For Canadian Tourists," and among other things, labelled Texas as "White Congo," Kentucky as "Whiter Congo," Nebraska as "Schizophrenia," and Alaska and Hawaii as "Rape Central."

Alaska has the highest per-capita sexual assault rate in the United States. The other labels, including naming New Mexico as "the only normal state", are less clear.

It's typically uncharacteristic for a Canadian political figure who had key roles in both Trudeau campaigns—ones that put progressive ideals in the forefront, none the less—to tweet something so blatantly insulting of Canada's top ally and trading partner.

Butts has tweeted other criticisms of the United States, one mocking the United States' "priorities" in their highest paid public employees.

Butts would end up saying that he was "mortified" that he posted the tweet, saying it was a "mistake to post it without reading it more closely."

Butts' track record

Butts' Twitter track record has been one of major blemishes and missteps. In May of 2020, Butts criticized The Post Millennial for what he believed to be false reporting.

"This is fun," tweeted Butts. "Scheer’s senior staff sent an email asking supporters to promote a smear job on me at 5:41 pm on Monday ... Then the P*st Millenial [sic] published a piece. All of it based [on] lies which they all know are lies."

The articles that Butts was referring to were reports on his controversial appointment to an environmental position in Ottawa, as well as an article regarding his criticism of Boris Johnson's advisor Dominic Cummings.

The latter of the two articles highlighted Butts' hypocrisy: When Cummings broke lockdown rules so to provide care for his child, Butts went on the attack. When Trudeau broke his own lockdown policy twice to visit his cottage in Quebec, Butts remained silent.

Butts has been a polarizing figure in Canadian politics after his involvement in the SNC-Lavalin scandal, wherein the Trudeau government applied inappropriate pressure on then-Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould to cover for their corruption.

A report from the Office of the Conflicts of Interests and Ethics Commissioner concluded that Trudeau did, in fact, inappropriately pressure former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould and sought to “influence her decision on whether she should overrule the Director of Public Prosecutions’ decision not to invite SNC-Lavalin to enter into negotiations towards a remediation agreement.”

During the scandal, Butts resigned from his position, as all innocent people do during scandals.
