‘Don’t F*ck With Cats’ subject Magnotta wants out of maximum-security prison
In 2012, Magnotta was sentenced to life in prison after murdering and dismembering Chinese student Jun Lin. Magnotta met Lin via a craigslist ad, and would go on to cannibalize him on video.
The focus of Netflix's 2019 documentary "Don't F*ck With Cats," Luka Magnotta, will be taking the federal government to court in an attempt to transfer from a maximum-security prison to a medium-security facility.
According to CTV News, Magnotta's lawyers filed a document in Federal Court on Monday stating that "the Correctional Service of Canada in June denied his request for a transfer from the maximum-security Port-Cartier Institution on Quebec’s north shore but has yet to rule on a grievance he filed over the decision."

Documents say that Magnotta was told that a decision would not be made until May 2022. The Corrections and Release Act, however, requires an "efficient and expeditious grievance procedure."

Magnotta then sent pieces of Jun Lin's body to federal party headquarters. Magnotta fled Canada and was found in Berlin, Germany in June 2012.
