Eric Adams brags about vaccine mandate for all New Yorkers after Biden’s fails SCOTUS test
“The Supreme Court may not want to put the health and safety of Americans first but New York City does,” tweeted Adams on Friday.

Newly-elected New York City Mayor Eric Adams bragged that his city's vaccine mandate, enacted by his predecessor Bill de Blasio, still stands after Biden's vaccine mandate for large workplaces was struck down definitively by the Supreme Court on Thursday.
"The Supreme Court may not want to put the health and safety of Americans first but New York City does," tweeted Adams on Friday after the Supreme Court ruled that Biden's far-reaching vaccine mandate is not actually constitutional.

View on XAdams has been called a "moderate" Democrat by some, but he is firmly in favor of mask and vaccine mandates in his city. The first thing he did as mayor, in fact, was to extend the city's "vaccine passport" requirements. These mandates are made by executive order, and have not been legislatively considered by City Council.

View on XSuits have been raised against the City's mandate. A lawsuit filed early this year, with the plaintiff listed as Staten Island real estate firm Cornerstone Realty, contends that they are being forced to fire workers who are not vaccinated and that the mandate has no provision for businesses to appeal it. That suit claims that "This case is not about vaccines, but about an employer’s right to be heard."
A suit brought by teachers in New York was rejected by courts, while the Staten Island suit is still pending. A class action suit seeks a temporary restraining order.
Since Aug 2021, New Yorkers have been required to show photo ID as well as proof of vaccination on demand in order to participate in any sort of public life in their city. When entering restaurants, gyms, museums, and other public spaces, all people ages 5 and up must show proof of vaccine or be denied entry. They are also required to mask.
It has been since Dec 2021, that children as young as five are required to get vaccinated in order to be permitted to engage in public life and the vaccine mandate has been extended to all private workplaces, with no exceptions.
There has been no small amount of objections to the new measures, which are considered to be overly draconian by many.

View on XThese restrictions have all been enacted as emergency measures and have been kept in place without any input whatsoever from the City Council, or, indeed anybody else except for Adams, and his predecessor, or unelected Governor Kathy Hochul, who took over as Andrew Cuomo was forced from office amid scandals.
