View on YouTubeThe Premier was talking about a new $9.8M round of investments for a new hospital in the area, and mentioned the labor shortage in the construction sector, similar to many other labor shortages worldwide:
"You know what our biggest problem is right now? We need people!"
"We're in such desperate need of people from around the world. I'm going to be reaching out to the Prime Minister; I can't emphasize it enough. We're short a couple hundred thousand people."
Ford went on to qualify his statement, spelling out exactly the kind of newcomer Ontario needs, in his opinion:
"... And so, folks, if you have some hardworking people, I just have one [criterion]."
"You come here like every other new Canadian that's come here, you work your tail off. If you think you're coming to collect the dole and sit around, not going to happen. Go somewhere else. You wanna work, come here."
"We have so much work, we can't keep up with it right now. The reason why we have so much work? We've created the environment, and the conditions for companies to come here and thrive, prosper and grow."
Ford has also made the news lately for saying that he will implement a "temporary" and "exceptional" vaccine passport province-wide.
