A court filing spotted by NBC News reveals that ICE is modifying what once were family detention centers into short-term facilities that will release families after “no more than 72 hours.”
In contrast, the former Trump administration wanted to increase the limitations of family detention to more than 20 days. This impact will be on two Texas facilities, as the Berks Family Residential Center in Pennsylvania already released all families back on February 26th.
However many politicians, including a Texas Democrat, are sounding the alarm on the US border crisis. Despite Biden’s DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas publicly asserting the contrary.

View on XJust yesterday it was reported that the Biden administration is allowing child migrant shelters to expand to 100% full capacity, despite CDC guidelines and concerns of pandemic spread.
An indicator of what the larger border strategy is shaping up to be.
As Washington Post notes:
“On several days this week, U.S. agents took more than 4,000 migrants into custody, nearly double the number in January. Roughly 350 teens and children have been crossing the U.S. border without their parents each day in recent weeks, four times as many as last fall, and many are stuck for days in dour detention cells waiting for shelter openings.”
In yesterday's White House press conference, Jen Psaki mentioned that President Biden is sending his top advisers to the border to assess the current situation. Washington Post goes on to mention there are private concerns expressed by the Department of Homeland Security that the largest migration waves are yet to come.
It’s unclear what Biden’s people plan to do, as Psaki could only say it would be absolutely different from what Trump’s border strategy was.
