President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris were announced as TIME Magazine's Person of the Year at a live event on Thursday evening. This is the first time a President has been named "Person of the Year" alongside his VP. This was a surprise to many as Kamala Harris was not even in the shortlist.
The shortlist for "Person of the Year" included President Donald Trump, Dr. Fauci & frontline workers, and the movement for racial justice. TIME surprised readers when Harris was named alongside Joe Biden as "Person of the Year."

View on XTIME's editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal said Biden and Harris won the honour for "changing the American story, for showing that the forces of empathy are greater than the furies of division, for sharing a vision of healing in a grieving world."
He continued specifying that "every elected President since FDR has at some point during his term been a Person of the Year, nearly a dozen of those in a presidential election year. This is the first time we have included a Vice-President."
