Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser reinstated an indoor mask mandate for Washington residents.
Starting on Saturday, Jul. 31 2021, everybody in the city of Washington DC over the age of two is required once again to wear a mask in any and all indoor settings.
This rule includes not only the non-vaccinated but partially and fully vaccinated individuals as well, and represents a reversal of May and June rulings which allowed vaccinated people and all residents, respectively, to go unmasked, aside from on public transportation, or in schools or government buildings.
"Given the trends and cases we see," Bowser said, "we want to get ahead of it and nip it in the bud as fast as we can, and we now masks can be effective in doing that," according to local news.
The CDC has recently reversed its position on masking and has recommended that, in areas where there are more than 50 new cases per day per 100,000 residents, those who are vaccinated should wear masks in addition to those who are not.
