Morneau predicted to resign in looming cabinet reshuffle

Unfortunately enough for Bill Morneau, it looks as though the PMO has already decided that it will be him. The usually supportive Canadian press have smelt blood and have begun to circle. The Toronto Star, for instance, screeched that Morneau is "painfully out of touch with Canadians."

The vox populi Toronto Sun observed that "Morneau's integrity appears to be kept in his cheque book." In Ottawa, the Conservative Party asked incredulously why "Justin Trudeau [hadn't] fired him?"

Bill Morneau has held his ministerial office since 2015, serving as the minister of finance for an unusually long time. Despite this, Morneau managed to "forget" that the WE organization gifted him $41 thousand for an equatorial vacation.

Oh, and he also managed to forget that both of his daughters had either been employed by WE or had been promoted by their co-founders. Morneau, however, did not recuse himself. He is almost certain to be found guilty of breaking the conflict of interest act.

Even if we were to believe Morneau, it is equally scandalous that the finance minister could have a $41 thousand hole in his personal finances.

Toronto Star journalists, who are naturally rather too close to the Liberal Party, have already begun to write about a looming cabinet reshuffle. Morneau is the first on the chopping block, it seems.

There is a certain cosmic justice to all of this. Remember when Morneau attempted to throw a junior, female minister under the bus for his own WE problems? Well, now he is receiving a taste of his own medicine.

Correction: A previous version of this article stated that "the WE organization paid [Monreau] $41 thousand for an equatorial vacation." In reality, Morneau was gifted with this vacation by the WE organization.
