Queen Victoria statue vandalized at Manitoba Legislature

Graffiti control workers were working to clean up the statue on Wednesday morning after someone covered it in white paint.

The statue has been at the location since it was unveiled in 1904 and portrays the queen holding a sceptre and an orb while sitting on a throne.

It was designed by George Frampton, a British sculptor.

Earlier this month, another statue of Queen Victoria—also designed by Frampton—was vandalized as the words ‘racist’ and ‘coloniser’ were painted on it.

There was also a Queen Victoria statue defaced in Montreal in November 2019, after a group argued that the history behind the figure has been “whitewashed in history books and popular media.”

As anti-racist protests continue throughout the world, protestors and rioters continue to vandalize and tear down historical statues and monuments—usually based on their controversial history.
