Report claims Trump is planning to send soldiers to Canadian border due to coronavirus outbreak

Having said this, Global News cited unnamed "government officials inside Donald Trump’s White House" and so this story is difficult to verify.

This policy would come as part of an initiative to tackle the ever-controversial illegal border crossings that happen frequently between the two countries. The military, then, would take some strain off the border guards who are attempting to stop these crossings.

Unnamed sources said that the White House is reportedly pushing for this policy and that informal conversations between Ottawa and Washington are being carried out to try and put it in place.

In an exclusive obtained by The Post Millennial regarding the Canadian army's plans for coronavirus there was no mention of border troops.

The militarization of the Canadian-US border would be unprecedented, and would only last as long as the coronavirus pandemic. The American troops would use "sensor technology" that would alert border officials to those crossing illegally.

In 2018, nearly 20,000 people crossed the border into Canada from the United States and it has been a sore point within Ottawa. At the start of the coronavirus troubles, irregular border crossers were still being allowed into Canada although this has now changed.

At time of writing, Canada now has 3,385 confirmed cases of coronavirus with 31 deaths.

In a press conference today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said "Canada and the US have the longest un-militarized border in the world, and it is very much in both of our interest for it to remain that way. We have been in discussions with the United States on this."

It is unclear where Global News' report lies after these comments.
